Looking for somewhere to hang out this summer? Whether you’re interested in cocktails in sophisticated surroundings or something a little more casual, there are plenty of bars, beer gardens and waterside cafés to choose from in Stockholm. Here are some of our favourites outdoor bars.
Popular waterside bar and restaurant on the city island of Kungsholmen by Lake Mälaren. Built on a floating dock, you can dangle your feet and watch the boats go by. This bar is also within handy walking distance of the urban beach at Rålambshovsparken.
A classic beer garden on the city island of Södermalm, where everyone is welcome. Mossebacketerrassen offers both spectacular views over Stockholm and live music. If you want to escape the crowds, try the two adjoining bars, Södra Bar and the Champagne Bar, each with its own smaller terrace or continue the evening in the night club, open Fridays and Saturday over the summer.
Located on the south side of Södermalm, under Skanstull bridge (Skanstullsbron), this lively bar attracts a mainly younger clientele and also offers boule, table tennis, live music and a nightclub.
4. Lydmar Hotel
A waterside and fashionable boutique hotel located in the centre of Stockholm with lovely harbour views and directly opposite the royal palace. This hotel offers 2 outdoor bars – the terrace, which isn’t very visible from ground level, and the patio at the entrance to the hotel.
5. Terrassen – Clarion Hotel
Located at Skanstull on Bohemian Södermalm, the Clarion Hotel’s summer terrace is a great place to stop off for an aperitif and also offers a lively bar and relaxed restaurant.
Debaser offers two bars and restaurants with outdoor seating at their waterside location at Hornstull on Södermalm. Bar Brooklyn, an American style bar and Calexico’s, a Mexican bar & restaurant. Debaser offer live entertainment and attracts a mainly younger crowd.
7. Mornington Restaurant and Bar
Set in the courtyard of the Mornington Hotel, The Mornington Restaurant and Bar offers a little tranquillity in the middle of busy and upmarket Östermalm and is perhaps one of this area’s best kept secrets.
8. Sjöcaféet vid Djurgårdsbron
Located at Djurgårdsbron, the bridge which crosses over to the island of Djurgården (home to Skansen, the theme park Gröna Lund and many other attractions), Sjöcaféet offers a waterside café, restaurant and bar. You can also hire kayaks, bikes and even golf carts here to explore the green city oasis of Djurgården.
9. Hallwylska palatset
Centrally located café and bar with luxurious surroundings in the courtyard of the Hallwylsksa palace museum. A welcome and ideally situated retreat if you’re in central Stockholm or shopping in NK or some of the many other shops in and around Hamngatan.
Josefina on Djurgården is a bar and restaurant with upmarket ambitions and a large outdoor area including many couches and even a pool. Great views and ideally situated if you’re spending time visiting any of the many attractions on this island.
